Want to lose weight? Eat better? Feel fitter? Stress less? How to achieve healthy living goals!

Want to lose weight? Eat better? Feel fitter? Stress less? How to achieve healthy living goals!

1. Set your goals

Once you’ve decided that this is the year that you want to live healthier and feel better about yourself, you will be more motivated and committed to set goals to improve your health. So the first step is to make that decision for yourself. Write it down to consolidate it! You may even want to keep a journal to keep yourself motivated!

Make sure that you start off setting goals that are realistic and achievable. Start slowly and don’t tackle too many goals at a time. For example, choose to exercise three times per week for 30 minutes or go meatless one day out of the week (Meatless Monday is always a good idea!)

2. Eat breakfast every day

You’ve heard it a million times, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. Despite most of us knowing this, we still skip breakfast. Research shows that about 18% of males and 13% of females between the ages of 35 and 54 years old don’t eat breakfast.

Eating breakfast daily holds many health benefits such as reducing your risk of diabetes, heart disease and hypertension. It improves memory and cognitive functioning which is related to performance in exams – another reason to make sure the kids are eating a good breakfast!

People who eat a large, healthy breakfast every morning also lose weight more because it keeps them full for longer and gives them more energy.

3. Cut out sugar

Sugar is bad for you and your health! Even if you don’t have a sweet tooth, sugar is hidden in almost everything that we buy and eat. Yes, sugar is added to foods that are not even sweet such as bread, pasta, sauces and condiments!

Make an effort to reduce your sugar intake by reading food labels carefully, removing artificial sugars (diet drinks, artificial sweeteners and sugar-free sweets and ice-cream) and including more protein and fat which will keep you fuller for longer and prevent sugar cravings.

Include natural sugars into your daily diet such as fruit, raw honey and nut butters which you can add to plain yoghurt, oatmeal or into smoothies. Challenge yourself to go sugar-free and watch your waistline grow smaller, skin become more radiant and energy levels increase.

After an initial ‘withdrawal’ period from sugar, you will begin to lose the craving for added sugars and everything will begin to taste so much better!

4. Pile up the veggies

Fill up on your vegetables to look and feel better. As cliché as it sounds, eating veggies are really good for your health. Eating a wide variety of colourful vegetables contains powerful anti-oxidants which helps to prevent premature aging and creates radiant, glowing skin.

Vegetables are high in fiber and low in calories, thereby increasing your intake will prevent those hunger pangs!

Fill half your plate with colourful veggies and divide the other half into two quarters for lean protein and starch or whole grains to manage your weight. Try eating your veggies raw, steamed or boiled as well as in soups or stews.

5. Exercise more

It is important to include more exercise into your lifestyle to feel healthier, fitter and happier. If your goal is to lose weight, then you definitely need to start a regular workout routine.

Start slowly in the beginning by walking first and then once you become stronger, you can start running. Join a gym and work the circuit, swim, cycle, go to step classes, try Pilates or yoga – do something but keep moving! Exercise will burn calories, strengthen your body and lift your mood, mind and spirit.

Sometimes you may need a bit of extra help to lose unwanted weight even if you are exercising and eating healthily. Add herbal remedies such as Ecoslim and Detox Drops to your daily weight loss regimen. EcoSlim will boost your metabolism, encourage the healthy break down of fat and prevent food cravings while Detox Drops detoxes and eliminates unwanted toxins from the body.

7. Sleep better

Are you getting enough sleep? Do you still feel tired after waking up in the morning? Most of us cheat ourselves out of a good night’s rest and don’t realize that it could be detrimental to our health. Not getting the recommended seven hours of sleep can increase your risk of some serious diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and obesity.

Aim to go to bed earlier this year! Relax and clear your mind of the day’s worries and stresses before going to sleep by taking a long, bath, reading a book or drinking a cup of chamomile tea.  If you have trouble falling asleep, try not to eat too late at night, drink too much caffeine and alcohol or watch so much TV.

Use a natural remedy such as Serenite Plus which helps to induce drowsiness and promotes healthier, more peaceful sleeping patterns – you’ll definitely feel better in the morning!

8. Stress less

As much as we hate to admit it, stress is a huge part of our lives. Working long hours, not getting enough sleep, eating poorly, no exercise, financial pressure, relationship issues and not interacting with family and friends can lead to stress. When stress starts affecting you negatively, it can increase your risk of depression, anxiety, insomnia, heart disease and obesity.

Learn to reduce your stress by eating healthily, exercising, getting more sleep, practicing breathing exercises, meditating or taking time out to unwind and relax.

Natural remedies such as PureCalm and Mindsoothe can help to relieve symptoms of anxiety, stress and depression. PureCalm is a wonderfully, soothing herbal remedy which calms you quickly when you need it, helping to balance and soothe a troubled emotional state.

10. Be kind to yourself

We often become so wrapped up in taking care of everyone around us except ourselves. Let this be the year where you decide to be good to you! Do something just for yourself everyday even if it means getting up a few minutes earlier to enjoy having a cup of coffee before the mad breakfast rush and school run starts.

Enroll for that course that you’ve always wanted to do, say no more often, go on a cruise with your best friend, run a marathon, change your hair colour (yes, give yourself permission to add blue streaks) or learn to tango.
