Reasons why it's important for women to put themselves first

Too many women are burned out. Yep, we're tired, exhausted and SO close to having a mental breakdown! In the midst of balancing our careers, studies, kids, husbands, friends, pets, finances and housework, women leave out the most important thing: self-care! And while we're juggling it all with smiles on our faces and our brains short-circuiting, we somehow manage to nurture everyone else, lend a listening ear to everyone else and make sure everyone else is happy! Until one day, BOOM, you explode! All it takes is for your partner to not put their dirty clothes in the laundry basket. Or perhaps your colleague asked you to cover their shift for the third time this month. Maybe your mother-in-law made an unwanted comment about your parenting style! The smallest thing can set you off at this point, and let's be honest - it feels GREAT to let off that pent-up steam!

No matter how your life may be structured (whether you're a business owner, a stay-at-home mom or a university student in your twenties), there seems to be an unhealthy pattern of women putting other peoples' needs before their own. We struggle to say no in fear of disappointing others and will make sure everyone else is healthy, happy and relaxed, while neglecting to give ourselves that same love and care. In fact, women are likely to feel guilty or selfish when they take time out for themselves!. In many cases, loved ones may make women feel ashamed about putting themselves first! 

The healthiest thing a woman can do when she's feeling overworked and stressed is to stop and take some time out to care for herself! While this may seem obvious, many women struggle with the idea of putting themselves first. The truth is that when women make self-care a priority, it benefits both them AND their loved ones. Making self-care a priority prevents her from burning out or even from becoming ill due to stress! We're able to get things done more efficiently when we're not so exhausted, and our mood will certainly be elevated and more pleasant.
