Cellulite - Every Woman's Nightmare! What You Can Do To Prevent It
What is cellulite?
Do you cringe when you hear the word “cellulite?” If you feel that cellulite is part of the female curse, you are not alone! Many women obsess about their cellulite including celebs like Kim Kardashian and Jessica Alba. Don’t believe for one minute that cellulite is your destiny if you are a bit chubby or overweight! Cellulite doesn’t discriminate and women with different body types are affected too – whether you are skinny, fat, or a fitness freak, cellulite can be a problem for you. About 90% of women have cellulite but hardly, any men do – this is because women store more fat than men do and their skin is also structured differently. The tell-tale signs of cellulite are that lumpy, dimpled, orange peel or cottage cheese texture found on the surface of your skin. These fatty deposits typically appear on the tummy, thighs, glutes or butt area which makes wearing a bikini, shorts or mini so embarrassing! Cellulite is essentially fat beneath the skin which pushes against the underlying connective tissue. As the fat cells increase in size, it distorts the connective tissue and creates dimpled skin.
Is cellulite hereditary, hormonal or just related to lifestyle?
There are a number of reasons why you may have developed cellulite.
Heriditary
Blame it on mom! Genetics plays a role in the way your body stores fat, and you may therefore be predisposed to cellulite. This doesn’t mean that there is nothing you can do about it! You don’t have to just except your fate! By eating healthy foods and exercising regularly, you can certainly help to stop, minimise or prevent cellulite, even though your genes predispose you to it! You CAN beat the cellulite battle!

Hormonal
So, you’ve never had cellulite before and suddenly it appears? The culprit is ….Hormones! There is a strong connection between cellulite and your hormones as a result of estrogen. Estrogen aggravates those fatty deposits in the skin, particularly in the stomach, thighs and buttocks and this can worsen the appearance of cellulite. When your hormones are out of whack, cellulite likes to rear its lumpy bits. In the Feelgood Health range, our herbal remedy Don Quai is specially formulated to balance hormones and also acts as a powerful tonic for the reproductive system. Using Don Quai daily can help to calm and balance hormones and keep estrogen from pumping up that cellulite!
Cellulite may also worsen during pregnancy because of increased weight gain as well as water retention. Cellulite is also more noticeable during and after menopause because the texture and quality of the skin changes – as the skin becomes thinner, the appearance of cellulite is more evident.

Lifestyle
As with any health condition, our lifestyle choices also impact on the appearance of cellulite. While it may not necessarily be a direct cause of cellulite, unhealthy diet, and lack of exercise can certainly worsen cellulite presence. Not drinking enough water can also play a big part. Water keeps the liver and kidneys healthy and flushes toxins and excess hormones from the body. If you don’t drink enough water, your kidneys and liver can’t work properly and an increase in cellulite could be the outcome!

What you can do to prevent cellulite?
Eat a healthy diet
Eating a healthy diet packed with fresh fruit and veggies, and especially unprocessed foods will make a significant difference in reducing the appearance of cellulite. Nowadays, our foods are filled with additives, preservatives and hormones which contribute to cellulite and fat storage. ‘Pseudo hormones’ in some foods have been found to cause hormonal imbalance – and therefore lead to an increase in hormone related problems, including cellulite! The solution is to avoid processed foods and to choose organic foods as much as possible.
