Clear Baby's Stuffy Nose Safely & Naturally
Parenting can be both wonderful and frightening at the same time. One of the rights-to-passage as a parent is figuring out how to clear your baby’s nose for the first time - while trying to avoid either you or the baby being left with frazzled nerves! Read on to discover the easiest and most effective ways to help clear your precious baby’s nose quickly.
Should You Be Worried About Your Baby’s Stuffy Nose?
A stuffy nose might cause your baby to snore, have a hard time feeding or sleeping, or become excessively upset. Breathing through the lips can also sometimes be an indication that the baby’s nose is congested. Of course it’s worrying when your baby has trouble breathing, eating or sleeping, but things can clear up quickly if you read on and follow our simple and easy suggestions!
Nasal Sprays
Using a nasal spray is one of the easiest methods to clear your baby's nose of mucus. It’s important to only use a nasal spray that does not dry out the nose, such as this Colloidal Silver Nasal Spray which is 100% safe for babies and all ages! Congestion and mucous are great indicators that the body is responding appropriately to the infection; the immune system is essentially flushing out the invaders! By drying out the nose, you’re countering this essential immune response and helping the viruses/bacteria have a longer stay in the body.
With the Colloidal Silver Nasal Spray, you can do the following:
- Place your baby in an upright position and tilt head back slightly to open the nasal passages
- Spray twice into each nostril
- Gently wipe away any leakage with a tissue before moving on to the other side of the face
- Repeat 3 times per day for fast relief
Steam Sessions
Steam is another great way to help fight against nasal congestion! Steam adds warmth and moisture to the air which opens up the respiratory tract and in turn, helps loosen mucous and reduce inflammation. Run a hot shower or bath in the bathroom and let the steam accumulate in the room. Once the room is nice and steamy, bring your baby in and sit (or play) with your baby for around 20 minutes. Adding essential oils to the hot water results in magical, therapeutic steam! Essential oils that will help ease congestion and respiratory infections include Eucalyptus Essential Oil, Peppermint Essential Oil and Tea Tree Essential Oil.
Place a Diffuser in the Baby’s Room
Diffusers are household essentials for both adults and babies. In the case of babies, placing a diffuser near the cot or bed helps to ensure moisture is added to air. The Ohm Diffuser does wonders and includes an LED light and timer. Diffusers work in the same way that steaming does, without the need for a bathroom, bath or shower. Simply fill the diffuser with a bit of water and your selection of essential oils!
P.S. If your baby is struggling to sleep, add a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil before bedtime.
Best Sleeping Position for a Stuffy Nose
Elevating the mattress on the head side of the bed when your baby is suffering from congestion helps to facilitate drainage and better breathing. Simply use a rolled up towel or blanket and place it under the head side of the mattress to a 15-30 degree incline. You don’t want your baby to be too elevated as this might cause them to roll around. Another important point is to never leave the blanket sticking out, as it could end up unfavourably if the baby gets ahold of it.
