Essential oils are made from concentrated plant extracts, which many people believe to provide powerful medicinal, cosmetic, therapeutic or spiritual benefits, and have been used for thousands of years for various reasons! If you're an essential oil fanatic, you'll know that there are oils that people can use for certain conditions or for specific outcomes, such as improved concentration, relaxation, soothing of eczema, healing of acne, soothing PMS or reducing insomnia - to name a few!

The best part about aromatherapy (the practical use of essential oils) is that anybody can use them, at any time! Yes, there are some safety guidelines you need to be aware of, however this specific DIY meditative essential oil burner blend is very safe and absolutely lovely!

Caution: Essential oils should not be taken internally. Add to a carrier oil, as a massage oil, rub onto temples, use as a burner oil, in the bath or as a steam inhalation. Essential oils are not recommended during pregnancy, breastfeeding or on small babies.

Here's how to make an effective, safe and relaxing essential oil blend for the purpose of meditation, using only pure and organic essential oils!

Tools you'll need

You're going to need a good quality ceramic oil burner for your essential oils. You'll also need a tealight candle to heat the essential oils and release the aromas into the air. Last but not least, you'll need your selection of pure organic essential oils to promote a relaxed, introspective, tranquil and meditative state!

(Alternatively, you can use a flame-free, ultrasonic cold mist diffuser, that comes with a timer for mist function and LED light).

Essential oils for an effective meditation blend

  • African Helichrysum

This oil has traditionally been used to encourage sleep and deep dreams, as well as to bring on trance-like (meditative) states. African Helichrysum has also been used to ward off negative energy and keep you 'protected' from all things nasty!

  • Lavender  

Lavender essential oil is one of the most well-know relaxing oils. It effectively soothes anxiety and stress, and is a great ingredient to help you calm down into the meditative mode!

  • Cedarwood

Ancient cultures have been highly fond Cedarwood essential oil in the practice of meditation and introspection. It also helps to relieve stress and anxiety, while promoting mental clarity and grounding.

  • Frankincense 

Frankincense is regarded as an exotic and highly healing essential oil! The reason why it makes a fantastic ingredient in a meditation blend, is because it helps deepen your breathing, calm the mind and soothe your overall state of being.

  • Sandalwood

Last but not least, Sandalwood essential oil is one of the best oils to include in your meditation blend! It lifts your spirit, breaks any toxic thought processes, calms the mind and helps heal any emotional or spiritual wounds.

DIY recipe

Fill the top of your oil burner with water. Add 2 drops of each essential oil into the water, light your tea candle and put it beneath the oil blend to warm! This oil blend will help you get in touch with your spiritual side, plus create a wonderful-smelling room! Accompany these meditative oils with some soft, gentle music, a dim room and solitariness for the best effect.
