Tissue Salts for Pets: 5 common health problems and how Tissue Salts can help!
More and more people are using biochemic tissue salts as an effective natural remedy to support their health and wellbeing. But did you know that tissue salts are beneficial for pets too? Yes, tissue salts are gentle and effective enough for dogs, cats, birds, horses, cows and even wild animals!
What are tissue salts?
Tissue salts, also referred to as biochemic or cell salts are twelve essential mineral salts that occur naturally in the body to maintain good health. This tissue salt therapy was first developed by a German physician, Dr. Wilhelm Heinrich Schussler in the 19th century. Dr Schussler believed that most illnesses were caused by an imbalance of these minerals in the body.
Tissue salts help the cells of the body to function effectively and promote and regulate vital processes such as digestion, nutrition, water balance, detoxification, elasticity, circulation, sodium-potassium balance, oxygenation, healing and much more!
According to Dr Schussler, an imbalance in any of these ‘cell salts’ could lead to ‘dis-ease’ and the development of symptoms related to that imbalance. By taking the appropriate tissue salt, balance is restored and the body returns to a natural state of health.
There are twelve cell salts comprised of the following:
- Three calcium minerals: Calcium Fluoride, Calcium Phos, Calcium Sulphate
- Three potassium minerals: Kali Mur, Kali Phosphate, Kali Sulphur (known as Kali Mur, Kali Phos and Kali Sulph)
- Three sodium minerals: Natrum Phosphate, Natrum Sulphur, Natrum Mur (known as Nat Phos, Nat Sulph and Nat Mur)
- Plus Ferrum Phosphate , (known as Ferrum Phos), Magnesium Phosphate (known as Mag Phos) and Silicea
Tissue salts are absorbed directly into the cells, thereby restoring balance and harmony in the body. The amazing thing about these salts is that their effects can be felt quite quickly and best of all, there are NO side effects! They can be used in the treatment of acute conditions and as a preventive measure. Isn’t this a good enough reason to use tissue salts for your precious pet as well? The good news is that tissue salts are just as effective for pets as they are for humans and can be used for dogs, cats, horses and even smaller animals like birds, rats, mice and hamsters!

Here are 5 common pet health problems and how tissue salts can help
- Skin problems
As you know one of the most common health problems that dogs and cats experience usually involves their skin. Treat your pooch or kitty’s dry itchy skin, eczema, hot spots or dandruff with Calc Sulph. Calc Sulph has a healing effect and helps maintain a healthy skin and coat to keep your pet looking in tip top condition. Use Calc Sulph in combination with Feelgood Pets Skin & Coat Tonic, a herbal tonic for pet skin conditions, as well as Allergy Itch Ease to stop the itching.
2. Respiratory problems
Does your pet suffer from respiratory infections, colds or sinus? If your pet is prone to symptoms of sneezing, coughing, watery eyes and nose, use Ferrum Phos which has many uses in the body. Ferrum Phos is recommended at the first stage of any infection for quick relief of symptoms. This tissue salt helps to strengthen the walls of the blood vessels and improves the body’s ability to distribute oxygen and iron to all cells, promoting healing. It also aids blood health, relieves sore throats and supports aging animals.
Watering eyes and a runny nose will also respond well to Nat Mur – a tissue salt which promotes water balance in the body. Ferrum Phos and Nat Mur are excellent supplements and can be used along with the following herbal and homeopathic medicine for respiratory infections in pets: Respo-K (a homeopathic remedy to promote your pet’s respiratory health) and FeliSafe (a homeopathic remedy for cat ‘flu and Snuffles).
- Anxiety, stress and nervousness
Dogs, cats, horses and even smaller pets often become anxious, stressed, tense and nervous just like humans do. If the anxiety, stress and nervousness is not addressed, it can lead to more extreme behavioural problems and even physical problems like fur and feather pulling.
Kali Phos is the perfect tissue salt to soothe and calm anxiety during times of stress. Use Kali Phos for highly strung or anxious pets or for relief during stressful situations like visits to the vet, thunderstorms, moving home or when leaving them alone. Kali Phos makes a perfect companion to Feelgood Pets PetCalm, helping to restore balance while PetCalm works to promote relaxation and reduce anxiety.
4. Digestive Issues
Pets also suffer from a wide range of issues such as an iffy tummy, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, indigestion, gas even IBS. The tissue salt, Nat Phos, is a wonderful acid neutralizer. It also improves absorption of fats and other nutrients from the diet thereby promoting overall digestion.
5. Diabetes
Diabetes is a condition affecting more and more pets, especially dogs and cats – and tissue salts can work wonders to restore balance to blood sugar and insulin levels and improve pancreatic health. Feelgood Pets has combined three of the most important tissue salts for diabetes into our natural remedy, Diabetonic Pets. Diabetonic Pets contains Kali Sulph, Nat Sulph and Calc Phos.
6. Sore joints
Pets that suffer from stiff, swollen joints, arthritis, rheumatism and degenerative joint disease will definitely benefit from regular doses of Calc. Fluor. This tissue salt helps to strengthen, tone and restore elasticity to the cells and tissues in the body. It improves ease of movement and promotes healthy ligaments, bones and teeth. Use Calc Fluor in combination with Nat Phos, an acid neutralizer, which removes excess acid deposited into the joints. Used together, these cell salts will help to promote joint health, while Feelgood Pets MobiLive Pets acts as a natural anti-inflammatory and pain killer for pets with painful joint conditions.
What is dosage for tissue salts in pets?
Tissue salts for pets may be taken preventatively as well as curatively. Preventative use of tissue salts is usually referred to as a ‘maintenance dose’ and is generally taken 2 – 3 times a day. However, when symptoms are acute, this dose is increased by increasing the frequency of dosage, rather than the amount of tablets. A dog with chronic digestive problems and a sensitive stomach, for example, would use the recommended tissue salts two to three times daily to help maintain digestive health. However, during a flare up of diarrhea or vomiting, the dosage should be increased to an hourly dose, decreasing when the crisis has passed.
The recommended maintenance dosage of tissue salts for dogs, cats, horses and small pets is:
- Small animals and birds = 1 tablet dissolved in water. A third of this is administered three times daily
- Cats and dogs under 5 kg = ½ tablet 3 times per day
- Dogs between 6kg and 20kg = 1 tablet 3 times per day
- Dogs weighing over 20 kg = 2 tablets 3 times per day
- Horses = 5 tablets 3 times a day
As you can see, biochemic tissue salts are a gentle, safe and non-toxic treatment alternative for your pet’s overall health.
